The Altoona Mountain Lions waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They snuck past Williamsport with a 48-42 win. Given Altoona's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Williamsport is ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Altoona got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Melana Eyer out in front who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Eyer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Raylin Eyer, who scored nine points.
Altoona pushed their record up to 11-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Williamsport, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-6.
Altoona will look to defend their home court on Monday against Central Dauphin East at 6:30 p.m. Central Dauphin East is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. Williamsport on the road again on Saturday and play against Harrisburg at 12:30 p.m. on January 20th.
