The Hughesville Spartans came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 51.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lewisburg 44-41. That's another feather in the cap for Hughesville, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Hughesville was led to victory by Ava Snyder and Maddie Smith. Snyder scored 13 points along with five steals, while Smith dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Smith scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alli Anstadt, who scored two points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Hughesville's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Lewisburg, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hughesville will challenge Shikellamy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Shikellamy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday. As for Lewisburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Milton at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
