Westlake and Thousand Oaks are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westlake's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Thousand Oaks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Westlake is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Calabasas just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Coyotes, falling 10-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Warriors, who until this contest were averaging 3.33 runs allowed.
Mason Berlinger and Joey Moore did some serious damage despite the final result: Berlinger went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Moore went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Noa Nakagawa, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Thousand Oaks and Oaks Christian meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Lancers fell just short of the Lions by a score of 3-2.
Thousand Oaks also got a good showing from Jackson Auster, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Auster is becoming a predictor of the Lancers' success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 5-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Thousand Oaks saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Ange, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Westlake's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 11-4. As for Thousand Oaks, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-6.
Westlake beat Thousand Oaks 7-2 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
