The Kennedy Cougars will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Van Nuys Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Kennedy came tearing into Friday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Canoga Park 70-22 at home. With Kennedy ahead 43-12 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Andreya Villa had an outrageously good game as she dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Melissa Moran, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals.
Meanwhile, Van Nuys entered their tilt with Vaughn with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Van Nuys blew past Vaughn 57-31. Given Van Nuys' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Vaughn is ranked 1136th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kennedy's victory bumped their season record to 6-1 while Canoga Park's defeat dropped theirs to 0-6.
Everything came up roses for Kennedy against Van Nuys in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 56-24 victory. Does Kennedy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Van Nuys turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
