The matchup between the Duarte Falcons and the Sierra Vista Dons on Wednesday hardly resembled the 25-20 effort from their previous meeting. Duarte came out on top in a nail-biter against Sierra Vista and snuck past 56-53. The win was nothing new for Duarte as they're now sitting on three straight.
Despite the defeat, Sierra Vista saw an underclassman step up: Cailei Buna scored 38 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 71.7% of Sierra Vista's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Zaira Eulloque was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with nine rebounds and eight steals.
Duarte now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Sierra Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Duarte will square off against Nogales at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Sierra Vista, they will head out on the road to challenge Azusa at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Azusa is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
