Wayne City extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-5-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gallatin County Hawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Indians have suffered since April 11, 2025.

Marschall Mays was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryson Caudle made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Logan Schuster, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
As for Gallatin County, they now have a winning record of 5-4. They haven't had any issues with Wayne City recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
On Gallatin County's side, Aiden Combs was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Combs has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Downen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne City will take on Woodlawn at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The game will give the Indians their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Gallatin County, they will challenge Pope County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
