The West Mecklenburg Hawks had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-48 victory over West Charlotte on Tuesday. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but West Mecklenburg was the better team in the second half.
West Mecklenburg found their leader in underclassman Josiah Pratt, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Pratt hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Chase Mcdonald, who scored 11 points.
Despite the defeat, West Charlotte saw an underclassman step up: Christian Coleman scored 29 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Littlejohn, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
West Mecklenburg's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-9. As for West Charlotte, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Mecklenburg won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Mavericks at 7:15 p.m. on January 31st. Mallard Creek has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 465 points over their last seven games. As for West Charlotte, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Titans at 7:15 p.m. Hopewell knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 matches -- so hopefully the Lions like a good challenge.
