The Pleasant Grove Eagles will head out to challenge the McClatchy Lions at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
McClatchy will be up against a hot Pleasant Grove team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Eagles blew past Cosumnes Oaks 8-2 on Friday.
Maddox Ali looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Pleasant Grove is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Breydan Boyle, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Pleasant Grove's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Cole Davis was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, McClatchy got themselves on the board against Grant on Friday, but Grant never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Pacers. Considering the Lions have won eight matches by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Everett Yeske looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Antonio Barber was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gabe Coronado, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and two RBI.
McClatchy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in three consecutive games.
McClatchy pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Pleasant Grove, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Pleasant Grove might still be hurting after the 13-6 loss they got from McClatchy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
