The Foothill Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Shasta Wolves at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Foothill put up the most points they have all season on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Enterprise a 16-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three matches by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Enterprise's batters probably weren't too happy with Kayden Williams, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (he gave up a single walk).
At the plate, Will Baker was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Modesitt, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Foothill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Shasta made easy work of Red Bluff on Friday and carried off a 10-2 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Wolves have posted against the Spartans since April 25, 2023.
Landon Kidd looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Owen Krieder was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Owen Boesiger was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Shasta pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Foothill, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Foothill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Shasta struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Foothill skirted past Shasta 3-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Foothill since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
