Liberty proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Freedom Falcons. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-3 on Tuesday.
Chayce Formosa made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Rane Miller was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Dylan Amaral was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Liberty has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. Meanwhile, Freedom (ranked 349th) will meet Deer Valley (ranked 1019th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
