The Porterville Panthers lost to the Mission Oak Hawks back in December of 2022, but the Porterville Panthers didn't allow the Mission Oak Hawks the same satisfaction on Wednesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Porterville made off with a 36-35 win over Mission Oak. The victory was all the more spectacular given Porterville's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while Mission Oak is ranked 206th).
Porterville found their leader in underclassman Ryleigh Schoonover, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was Schoonover's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Sare Ortiz was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Porterville's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Mission Oak, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-4 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Nipomo the next time they take the court. Porterville will head out to face Nipomo at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, while Mission Oak will head out to face them at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
