Liam McGinty made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Escondido Charter let Matthew Hydar and Sam Romero run wild. Hydar went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Romero went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, while it was Calvin Christian who put the first runs on the board on Friday, it was Foothills Christian who put up more. The Crusaders lost 19-3 to the Knights.
Calvin Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Hoff, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The Crusaders are 2-1 when Hoff posts three or more hits, but 2-4 otherwise.
Escondido Charter's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Calvin Christian, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Calvin Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Escondido Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. It's a different story for Calvin Christian, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Escondido Charter's hitters?
