The Massena Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Potsdam Sandstoners at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Massena is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Massena couldn't beat Ogdensburg Free Academy on Monday even though they stacked six runs on them in the fifth inning. The Red Raiders lost 16-10 to the Blue Devils. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gavin Mitchell made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakob Page, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Potsdam hadn't done well against Ogdensburg Free Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Sandstoners came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 10-6. The victory was familiar territory for the Sandstoners, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Nick Roda made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Sam Martin and Brandon Bernard did most of the damage at the plate: Martin went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Bernard got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Martin is becoming a predictor of Potsdam's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 3-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Toby Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Potsdam kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Potsdam's record is now 6-10. As for Massena, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Massena has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Potsdam struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Massena came out on top in a nail-biter against Potsdam in their previous matchup on May 1st, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
