The Las Lomas Knights will challenge the Miramonte Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Las Lomas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Las Lomas couldn't beat San Rafael on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Knights took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Izaiah Metzger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Jack Foscalina was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Miramonte and Concord had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Matadors were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Bears on Thursday. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Casey Yung and Ian Hughes made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Yung didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hughes tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Yung also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Miramonte is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-15 otherwise. At bat, Yung got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Hughes got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two runs gave Yung a new career-high.
In other batting news, Preston Rguem and Tanner Strand did most of the damage at the plate: Rguem went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Strand went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Strand a new career-high.
Miramonte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Miramonte's win bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Las Lomas, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-10-1.
Las Lomas suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Miramonte in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
