The Sacramento Dragons suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 58-28 loss at the hands of Christian Brothers. While losing is never fun, Sacramento can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 572nd, while Christian Brothers is ranked 109th).
Despite the loss, Sacramento still got an impressive performance from La ne Dunn, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 39.3% of Sacramento's points, marking the 17th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of E'Myiah Morris, who scored five points.
Sacramento struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Christian Brothers' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia Novi, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Novi hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Another player making a difference was Aleyah Harmon, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Sacramento and nudges their season record down to 10-14. As for Christian Brothers, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 18-4.
Sacramento will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Fortune Early College at 5:30 p.m. Averaging 56.5 so far this season, Fortune Early College's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Sacramento better be ready for a challenge. As for Christian Brothers, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Monte Vista at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th. Monte Vista is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.7 points per game.
