The Poway Titans entered their tilt with the La Costa Canyon Mavericks with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Poway walked away with a 64-56 victory over La Costa Canyon on Friday. Given Poway's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while La Costa Canyon is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Poway's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Katelyn Johnson, who scored 25 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least 25% of Poway's points. Another player making a difference was Ari Mason, who scored 16 points.
Several Mavericks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ali DiBenedetto, who scored 17 points. Keira Colestock was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Poway's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 21.7 points. As for La Costa Canyon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
Poway will face off against Pacifica at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. La Costa Canyon will be home for the holidays to greet Canyon Crest Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
