Maize gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 55-28 victory over the Goddard Lions. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Eagles just coasted through the last quarter.

Maize got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Myovela out in front who threw for 189 yards and three TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 68 yards and one score. The Eagles also got a significant boost from Demarye Smith, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.

Goddard lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Erik Olivas, who rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 108 receiving yards and one score. He really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 74 yards. Brock Sullivan was another key passer, throwing for 186 yards and three TDs.

Maize didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 27-0 victory against Andover on the 12th. As for Goddard, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 36-28 win against Eisenhower on the 12th.
