Oakmont is 9-1 against Placer since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Vikings will challenge the Hillmen at 7:00 p.m. Oakmont will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Oakmont's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Thursday, when they got past Bear River's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Bruins. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Trevor Wilson looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Beau Ogles was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Christan Stella also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Oakmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Placer). They blew past Pioneer 11-3 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Placer also got a great performance from Jayson Glatt as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Addison, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Placer's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Devin Knight, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Placer is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Oakmont, their record is now 14-3.
Oakmont was able to grind out a solid win over Placer in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 3-0. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Hillmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
