Kennedy Catholic had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Canfield 51-48.
Kennedy Catholic can attribute much of their success to Layke Fields, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Bella Magestro was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Kennedy Catholic's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Canfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kennedy Catholic will face off against Morgantown at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Canfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Louisville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
