Encina Prep is 0-7 against the Cardinals since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Encina Prep Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Woodland Christian Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Encina Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1246th, while the Cardinals are ranked 418th).
After soaring to a 44-point victory in their last game, Encina Prep came back down to earth on Tuesday. They fell just short of Delta by a score of 35-32. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Encina Prep in their matchups with the Saints: they've now lost eight in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Elise Brandon, who scored 12 points along with four blocks. It was the first time this season that she posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Maraia Rokosiga, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Woodland Christian put the finishing touches on their 18th blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They really took it to Woodland for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-23 win at home. The victory was familiar territory for Woodland Christian who now have 12 in a row.
Encina Prep's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-16. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.6 points per game. As for Woodland Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
Encina Prep took a serious blow against the Cardinals in their previous matchup back in January, falling 74-12. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Encina Prep was down 54-10.
