The Walnut Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Fillmore Flashes at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Walnut sitting on three straight victories and Fillmore on six.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Walnut walked away with it. They skirted past the Huskies 2-1. The victory was all the more spectacular given Walnut's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 281st, while Fairmont Prep is ranked 53rd).
Vianna Alvarez was the driving force of Walnut's attack as she scored both of Walnut's goals. With that big game, she's now up to 17 goals this season.
Meanwhile, Fillmore beat Rialto 3-1 on Thursday. That's two games straight that Fillmore has won by exactly two goals.
Walnut has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9-4 record this season. As for Fillmore, they pushed their record up to 13-3 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.
