Softball Recap: Incarnate Word Academy Wins Going Away Against Parkway North

Incarnate Word Academy barely beat Parkway North the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Knights were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Vikings on Monday. The game marked the Red Knights' most dominant win of the season so far.

Layla Portis and Makenna Brannam made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Portis pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Brannam tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Portis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Portis went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Brannam went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Brannam a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lauryn Walker and Erin Meriwether did most of the damage at the plate: Walker went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs, while Meriwether went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave Walker a new career-high. Chloe Bryant also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Incarnate Word Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Incarnate Word Academy back to even at 5-5. As for Parkway North, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Incarnate Word Academy will be playing at home against Eureka at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Red Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Parkway North, they will head out on the road to face off against Fox at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
