Football Recap: Northwest Skates Past West with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwest). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the West Pioneers 76-7. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Grizzlies' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Pioneers are ranked 162nd).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northwest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Augie Fast, who rushed for 91 yards and four scores on only nine carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns Fast has posted since back in October of 2024. Jaelynn Ligon was in the mix as well, providing Northwest with three TDs.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ligon, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Northwest's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Northwest will challenge Manhattan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Grizzlies' defense better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 31 points per game this season. As for West, they are taking a road trip to face off against Louisburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
