Walnut Grove put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 70-14 victory over the Liberty Redhawks. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wildcats' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Redhawks are ranked 638th).
Walnut Grove was led to victory by Cameron Newton and Hayes Hackney. Newton gained 149 total yards and three touchdowns, while Hackney threw for 219 yards and five TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes. What's more, Hackney racked up 164.3 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam King, who rushed for 47 yards and a pair of scores.
Walnut Grove was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 239 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 236 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Walnut Grove's defense and their 7.5 sacks. Tylan Henderson-Powell was especially locked on to Liberty's QB and sacked him three times.
Walnut Grove's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Liberty, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,044 yards in their previous games.
