If the Roosevelt Roughriders were riding high off their 71-46 takedown of the Fort Morgan Mustangs last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Roosevelt was dealt a 65-30 loss at the hands of Severance on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Roosevelt has scored all season.
Roosevelt's loss came despite strong showings from Brooks Reckard and Luca Salvatore. Reckard scored seven points along with five rebounds, while Salvatore scored eight points.
Brady Varney was his usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and four blocks for Severance. Varney is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Blake Varney, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Roosevelt has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for Severance, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roosevelt on the road again on Saturday and play against Riverdale Ridge at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. One thing working in Riverdale Ridge's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Severance, they will head out on the road to take on Frederick at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Frederick has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 441 points over their last six games.
