Watch a portion of 8,000 fans storm the court in Indiana. SACRAMENTO, Calif. — West Campus (Sacramento) girls basketball coach John Langston couldn't have been clearer after his team's resounding 75-47 victory over
Sunny Hills (Fullerton) Friday in the CIF Division 3 state championship at Golden 1 Center.
"They deserved what they got today," he said.
What the Warriors (29-7) earned was their second straight state title after winning a D4 crown last season.
They jumped to a 26-4 lead after the first quarter, making 10 of 16 shots, and this one was essentially over.
Nia Johnson had 23 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, UCLA-signee
Kiara Jefferson added 21 points and four assists and
Gabby Rones contributed 14 points as West Campus made 11 three-pointers, assisted on 20 of 30 baskets and outrebounded Sunny Hills 42-29 to win going away.
Last season the Warriors beat Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga) 63-55 in the state finals at Golden 1.
"I would say we were comfortable here, but not relaxed," said Jefferson, who made half of her 16 shots, including 4-for-7 on three-pointers.
Langston is a stickler for conditioning, so his teams were rarely comfortable during the season.
He scheduled a challenging variety of top-notch teams, which resulted in a better team, but a not-so-sparkling record.
"We lost seven games, but this is what we care about," Langston said. "They understood the importance for today. They looked for everybody. They got better and better and better. I told them to fight for their life and they did. It's an awesome team and they pulled together like glue."
Sunny Hills (24-11) fought off a nightmarish 1-for-13 first quarter and scored 23 points in the second quarter. Kayli Aril and Jessica Barrow scored 15 points apiece.

West Campus lost seven games this season, but won the one it wanted.
