After flying high against the North Forsyth Vikings last Tuesday, the Atkins Camels came back down to earth. Atkins ended up on the wrong side of a tough 66-42 walloping at the hands of Parkland on Monday. Atkins was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-12.
Atkins' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amanda Worrell, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanaa Puryear, who scored seven points along with five assists and four steals.
Parkland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordan Fisher, who scored 17 points. The matchup was Fisher's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amaja Wilkins, who scored 13 points.
Atkins has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Parkland, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-7.
Atkins won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ben L. Smith at 6:30 p.m. on December 12th. Ben L. Smith presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Atkins in North Carolina (Ben L. Smith is ranked 97th, while Atkins is ranked 428th). As for Parkland, they will head out on the road to face off against West Forsyth at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully West Forsyth focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Tuesday.
