Basketball Recap: Polytechnic Skates Past Mayfield with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Polytechnic over Mayfield in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Polytechnic Panthers blew the Mayfield Cubs out of the water with a 58-27 final score. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 25 points or more this season.

Polytechnic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jessie Yip, who posted nine points and five steals. Yip has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maggie Scholze, who had five points and five steals.

Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 17 consecutive matches.

Polytechnic pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Mayfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

When Polytechnic and Mayfield next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Polytechnic will take on Flintridge Prep and their six-game winning streak at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Polytechnic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.2 points per game this season. Similarly, Mayfield will try to stop Rio Hondo Prep's four-game winning streak when the meet at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
