Ryleigh Williams was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Camdyn Hunt was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Skye Fourman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Tocoi Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buchholz only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, St. Augustine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 25th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Orange Park, falling 22-12.
Olivia Cutter made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Gia Tiant, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Tocoi Creek's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Augustine, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-22.
St. Augustine's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Tocoi Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Augustine, though, as they've been averaging only 1.7 strikeouts. Will Tocoi Creek keep running through batters, or will the Yellow Jackets buck the trend?
Tocoi Creek took their victory against St. Augustine when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 16-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Toros since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
