Evergreen Valley has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Monta Vista Matadors at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Evergreen Valley posted their biggest win since December 7, 2023 on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 61-41 margin over Ann Sobrato. Given Evergreen Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Ann Sobrato is ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ryka Aprameyan was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 20 points along with eight steals. Aprameyan is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lealah Rowden, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Monta Vista came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Palo Alto 58-19 at home.
Evergreen Valley's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Monta Vista, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1.
Evergreen Valley took their win against Monta Vista in their previous matchup back in February of 2022 by a conclusive 50-30. Will Evergreen Valley repeat their success, or does Monta Vista have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
