Corona (Calif.) became the first high school baseball team to have two players selected in the top 10 of the same MLB Draft and the only squad with three first-round picks.
The first player off the board for Corona was
Seth Hernandez, a powerful right-handed pitcher with a 0.39 ERA in 2025, selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
With the 10th pick, the Chicago White Sox drafted shortstop
Billy Carlson, a defensive wizard who hit .365 this spring.
Prior to this draft, 15 pairs of high school teammates had been taken in the first round of the same draft during their graduation year. No team ever had both of those players drafted in the top 10 until Corona. None of those teams ever had a third player drafted in the first round either.
Corona broke that record when the Milwaukee Brewers drafted
Brady Ebel 32nd overall. Ebel hit .341 and is the son Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel. Brady was drafted at shortstop despite having to play third base this season with Carlson at short.
Of the 15 previous high schools to have multiple first-round picks, eight had a third player eventually taken in the draft. The highest being John Killalea of
Seminole (Fla.) in 2001, who was drafted in the sixth round (194th overall).
Corona had a fourth player drafted when pitcher
Ethin Bingaman was selected 603rd overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Bingaman was rated as the No. 150 MLB Draft prospect and is committed to play college baseball at Auburn.
This is the second straight year Corona has had multiple players drafted. Ethan Schiefelbein was a second-round pick and Josh Springer got picked in the 12th round in 2024.
