Baseball Game Preview: Baldwin Braves vs. Griffin Bears

The Baldwin Braves will head out on the road to challenge the Griffin Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Baldwin will be strutting in after a victory while Griffin will be coming in after a defeat.

While Baldwin's win against Cross Creek wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Baldwin had just enough and edged out Cross Creek 7-6 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Braves.

Braylon Wright was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Baldwin: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden GIbson, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Baldwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cross Creek only posted an OBP of .286.

Meanwhile, Griffin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss. They came up short against Jonesboro, falling 13-7.

Maurice Fletcher made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Jymarion Street also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Griffin's defeat dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Baldwin, their victory bumped their record up to 5-13.

Baldwin took their win against Griffin when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baldwin since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
