Soccer Game Preview: Ripon vs. Sonora

Ripon is 3-0 against Sonora since December of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Ripon Indians will take on the Sonora Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Ripon is headed into the contest having not lost since December 11 and will look to keep things rolling. Their defense stepped up to hand Ripon Christian a 3-0 shutout on Wednesday. The score was close at the half, but the Indians pulled away in the second half with two goals.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last match, Sonora made sure to put some goals up on the board against Hughson on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Huskies as they made off with a 5-0 victory. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 358th, while the Huskies are ranked 778th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sonora hit Hughson with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Estrella Machado (2), Addison Kraft (2), and Adyson Kroeze.

Ripon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-3-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those five contests. As for Sonora, they pushed their record up to 5-1-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Ripon beat Sonora by a goal in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ripon since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
