It was a good run, but the San Marcos Royals unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 65-43 walloping at the hands of Oxnard. While losing is never fun, San Marcos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Oxnard is ranked 54th).
Oxnard's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sofia Salgado led the charge by scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Salgado is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played. Mikayla Oliver was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
San Marcos' loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Oxnard, they have been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Marcos will take on Ventura at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ventura has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 268 points over their last four games. As for Oxnard, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Pacifica at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Pacifica is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
