The El Camino Wildcats fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Santana 56-23 on the road. That's another feather in the cap for El Camino, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
El Camino's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aliyah Carter led the charge by scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Alana Hoskins, who scored ten points along with eight steals and seven assists.
Despite the defeat, Santana saw an underclassman step up: Harper Diaz scored 11 points. Diaz scored a full 47.8% of Santana's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
El Camino is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-10 record this season. As for Santana, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Camino will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Vista at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th. Vista will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Santana, they will head out on the road to face off against Hilltop at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hilltop comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
