Palmer hasn't had much luck against Widefield recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Terrors will be playing at home against the Gladiators at 5:00 p.m. Palmer has given up an average of 19.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Palmer came up short against Fountain-Fort Carson on Monday, falling 17-2.
Camila Vazquez was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Widefield had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Wildcats.
Olivia McEwen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Isabella Monk, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mia Hoffpauir, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Widefield's victory bumped their record up to 18-2. As for Palmer, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Palmer has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Widefield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Palmer suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Widefield when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Terrors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
