The Sage Creek Bobcats are on the road again on Friday and plays the San Dieguito Academy Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th. San Dieguito Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Sage Creek, who comes in off a win.
Even though Sage Creek has not done well against Carlsbad recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Sage Creek came out on top in a nail-biter against Carlsbad and snuck past 42-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Sage Creek has posted since January 5th.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sage Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gia Kiesling, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine steals. Kiesling is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Harmony Lawler, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds.
Meanwhile, San Dieguito Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 11th straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 56-37 to La Costa Canyon. While losing is never fun, San Dieguito Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 709th, while La Costa Canyon is ranked 323rd).
Sage Creek's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-9. As for San Dieguito Academy, they dropped their record down to 6-15 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Sage Creek took their win against San Dieguito Academy in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 56-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sage Creek since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
