Even though the Hughesville Spartans have not done well against the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Hughesville walked away with a 53-40 victory over Mount Carmel. Given Hughesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Mount Carmel is ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ava Snyder continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with five assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Maddie Smith, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Hughesville's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Mount Carmel, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hughesville will take on South Williamsport at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mount Carmel, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lewisburg at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
