The Arroyo Grande Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Mission College Prep Royals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Arroyo Grande is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since May 10, 2024 on Friday. They skirted past Righetti 9-7. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Lucas Durham tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Arroyo Grande let Judah Hill and Linkin Whitney run wild. Hill scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Whitney went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. What's more, Hill posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Mason Corner also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Mission College Prep's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to St. Joseph on Saturday. Mission College Prep walked away with a 10-7 win over Aptos.
Brady Orfila looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Joe Villa was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kyson Hickman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Mission College Prep pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing nine hits in those games compared to only 5.2 in the others. As for Arroyo Grande, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-6.
Arroyo Grande couldn't quite get it done against Mission College Prep in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can Arroyo Grande avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
