Oak Grove is on a nine-game streak of home wins, while Mid-Buchanan is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will host the Dragons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It was a proper cat-fight when Oak Grove took on Harrisonville on Wednesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 22-6 margin over the Wildcats. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, Mid-Buchanan put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Penney a 17-0 shutout. The game marked the Dragons' most dominant win of the season so far.
Dru Pearson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in October of 2024. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and six RBI. Pearson is crushing it when it comes to RBI: she's brought in at least three every time she's taken the field this season.
In other pitching news, Kaylea Myers looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Ella Christie was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella Schwope, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Mid-Buchanan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Mid-Buchanan's victory bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Oak Grove, their win bumped their record up to 17-2.
Oak Grove skirted past Mid-Buchanan 4-2 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
