Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is Sierra Pacific's Fourth in Last Five Outings

The third road contest was the charm for Sierra Pacific, as they earned their first away win of the season. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Garces Memorial Rams on Friday. Sierra Pacific's win was all the more impressive since the Rams were averaging only 2.29 runs allowed on the season.

Edgar Espinoza made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Espinoza was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Sierra Pacific let Bryce Costa and Justin Simas run wild. Costa scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Simas scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Simas has become a key player for Sierra Pacific: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Corbyn Warchol was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Sierra Pacific kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Sierra Pacific has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Garces Memorial fell to 6-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sierra Pacific will take on Mt. Whitney in a tournament on Saturday. As for Garces Memorial, they will face off against Independence at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Garces Memorial 2.3, Independence 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
