After a string of five wins, the Redding Christian Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Rio Linda an easy 62-40 victory.
Redding Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brooklyn Beasley, who scored 17 points, and Cailee Bowers who scored 14 points. Beasley scored a full 42.5% of Redding Christian's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Rio Linda got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was LaRay Mitchell out in front who scored 18 points along with six assists and five steals. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Grant, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Redding Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Rio Linda, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Redding Christian is on the road again on Thursday and play against Willows at 4:30 p.m. on December 21st. Rio Linda and Yuba City will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Yuba City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 839th, while Rio Linda is ranked 383rd).
