The Vassar Vulcans will head out on the road to face off against the Caro Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Vassar will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings (they are ranked 639th, while Caro is ranked 285th).
Last Wednesday, Vassar ended up a good deal behind Reese and lost 60-46.
Vassar's loss came about despite a quality game from Bryce Brown, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Madix Gorleski, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Even though Caro has not done well against Bad Axe recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Caro came out on top against Bad Axe by a score of 44-35.
It was another big night for Evan Langmaid, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four blocks. Jaidon Buniack was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Vassar's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Caro, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Vassar have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Caro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Vassar was dealt a bruising 80-41 loss at the hands of Caro when the teams last played on January 3rd. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Caro's Connor McGarry, who scored 35 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
