Basketball Recap: Jack Stevens' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Boone Grove over South Central

Boone Grove was the 55-32 winner over South Central when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Boone Grove Wolves fell 79-72 to the South Central Satellites on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), the Wolves still had to take the loss.

Boone Grove lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jack Stevens, who went 12 for 24 on his way to 27 points and six rebounds. The game was Stevens' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Andrew Batesole was another key player, going 7 of 11 en route to 16 points and five assists.

Jay Huerta was his usual excellent self, going 11 for 15 on his way to 32 points and eight boards for South Central. With that strong performance, Huerta is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Noah Howard, who posted 15 points.

Boone Grove has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for South Central, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

After both having extra time off, Boone Grove and Kouts will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. As for South Central, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-35 loss against Jimtown on the 18th.
