Football Recap: Martin County Skates Past First Flight with Ease

While Martin County put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for First Flight. The Gators really took it to the Nighthawks for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won four contests by 24 points or more so far this season.

Martin County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jah Sheppard, who rushed for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine carries. Sheppard's longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Da'Brion Wilson-Hudgins, who rushed for 91 yards and one score on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Martin County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 357 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 201 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Martin County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kamarion Larry and Jayden Moore. Moore got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Martin County's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for First Flight, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Martin County will head out to take on Pasquotank County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' defense has only allowed 7.7 points per game this season, so the Gators' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for First Flight, they will face off against Northeastern at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
