The Southwestern Academy Sun will head out on the road to challenge the Blair Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Southwestern Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Blair will be coming in after a defeat.
Southwestern Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They secured a 28-24 W over Sequoyah School. The victory was just what Southwestern Academy needed coming off of a 41-14 loss in their prior contest.
Southwestern Academy can attribute much of their success to Valza Jusufi, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jusufi has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Michelle Fakrogha, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Blair's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against La Canada, falling 74-23. While losing is never fun, Blair can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1296th, while La Canada is ranked 234th).
Southwestern Academy's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Blair, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which is still a better percentage than their 4-13 record this season.
Southwestern Academy came up short against Blair when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 28-20. Can Southwestern Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
