Jake Frohn looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jayton Greer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was CJ Weinstein, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Huntington Beach lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Los Alamitos didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Newport Harbor sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over Fountain Valley on Friday.
Lucas Perez made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Perez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Perez wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Guy, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Adam Martin was another, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Newport Harbor's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Huntington Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 18-2.
Huntington Beach came out on top in a nail-biter against Newport Harbor in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Oilers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sailors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
