The Point Loma Pointers waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 73-62 win over Clairemont. Given Point Loma's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 372nd, while Clairemont is ranked 750th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grant Stewart continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Freeman, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Point Loma has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Clairemont, they bumped their record down to 10-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Point Loma will challenge Crawford at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Crawford is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Clairemont won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Sweetwater at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th.
