Last Thursday, Hughson was able to grind out a solid win over Escalon, taking the game 61-53. The win was all the more spectacular given Hughson's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while Escalon is ranked 148th).
It was another big night for Madi Duron, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Gracie Quillen was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ripon Christian escaped with a win on Friday against Ripon by the margin of a single free throw, 28-27.
Maddie Yonker was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Reagan Van der hoek, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Hughson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Ripon Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hughson have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Ripon Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 35.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Hughson against Ripon Christian in their previous meeting on January 2nd as the squad secured a 61-31 win. With Hughson ahead 39-18 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
