Meanwhile, Denver South was able to grind out a solid victory over Vista PEAK Prep on Monday, taking the game 9-5.
Emma Gibson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in October of 2024. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Kynley Price and Nici Montoya did most of the damage at the plate: Price went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Montoya went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave Montoya a new career-high. Elizabeth Henderson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Denver South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The win got Denver South back to even at 10-10. As for Thomas Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 0-20.
